Virtual event. Facilitated by City of Plano SMEs. This course is for designated members of the 2021 Leading the Plano Way cohort. This continuation of Module 6 offers an exploration of employment laws that address protected leave, wage and hour law, military status protection, retaliation, and the Texas Public Information Act. Participants will learn what their role is when an employee needs time off work for a personal or family illness. They will demonstrate an understanding of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which governs how employees are to be paid for their work and will learn how the City’s Policy regarding Leave (Policy 210) is applied in various situations. Additionally, this session will allow participants to recognize retaliation and how it can be avoided. Lastly, participants will learn what their responsibilities are in terms of record and document retention in order to comply with the Texas Public Information Act.
