Even with advanced warnings, hurricanes like Harvey and Laura still devastate lives and property. In an emergency, seconds matter and could mean the difference between surviving or not! September is National Preparedness Month and this year’s theme “Disasters don’t wait. Make Your Plan TODAY” encourages everyone to think ahead.
Knowing what to do, finding life-sustaining supplies and locating your loved-ones are of great concern during stressful times. Easing that discomfort could be as simple as mapping out an emergency strategy for your family and pets.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has designed actions you can take to be ahead of the game:
Week 1 (September 1-5): Make a Plan
Week 2 (September 6-12): Build a Kit
Week 3 (September 13-19: Prepare for Disasters
Week 4 (September 20-26): Teach Youth about Preparedness
