In lieu of in-person National Night Out presentations, Police Chief Ed Drain released a virtual state-of-the-department report. This is the week (October 6) people in communities across the nation would come outside for the sole purpose of getting to know each other. However, the coronavirus makes hosting events like National Night Out problematic.
At the heart of Chief Drain’s brief video message is an accounting of how well our police department serves Plano’s residents and businesses. Listen as he covers four performance measures: crime rate, traffic safety, timeliness of service and quality of service.
Plano PD officers have a long history of partnering with the public to better serve our community. There are a few simple things residents and visitors are encouraged to do:
• Lock vehicles all the time, even when carrying in shopping bags• Don’t leave valuables (bags or purses) in plain sight in vehicles• Close garage doors when you’re not inside, even if working in the yard• Replace bulbs and fix outdoor lighting promptly – don't give bad guys the advantage of darkness
It’s a good idea to be familiar with your neighbors, watch out for each other and be alert to what’s happening in your surroundings.
