Lower temperatures in North Texas generally mean most grasses go dormant and lawns require far less watering. As of November 1, Plano’s 2020-21 Winter Watering Guidelines go into effect. Once-a-week watering is a proactive way to “conserve and protect” the City’s water supply.
For the winter watering season, November 1 to March 31, residents and businesses are encouraged to turn automatic sprinkler systems off and only water as needed. During this period, water your lawn based on the last digit of your home’s physical address. Those ending with an odd number water on Tuesdays, while addresses ending with an even number water on Thursdays.
Run sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on your designated day to reduce the risk of nighttime freezing on sidewalks and roadways. Hand watering is also allowed for two hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any day.
