Scheduling Your Retirement and Out-Processing Meeting

Retire in 15 or 5 years

Your retirement day is an exciting time for you! Human Resources wants to make sure your transition is hassle free and uncomplicated. Also, we want to make sure your retirement check, insurance and vacation/sick payouts all get started on time and are paid out correctly. Let’s review a few tips to make all of this stress free.

Once you’ve decided on a retirement date and turned in a resignation letter to your department, please contact your Human Resources analyst at 972-941-7115 to schedule retirement out-processing. Bring your completed retirement packet to the meeting:

Retirement Packet

Retirement Packet for Police & Fire

This meeting needs to be scheduled roughly 30 to 60 days prior to your retirement date.

Retirement out-processing meetings take approximately 1 hour. In addition to the completed retirement packet (above), bring these items with you to the session:

  • Driver license
  • Copy of spouse’s driver license
  • Voided check
  • Beneficiary information to include:
    • Name
    • Social Security number
    • Address
    • Date of birth
    • Proof of birth
  • Medicare card, if applicable

Beware of emails not coming from the City of Plano on Retirement
Human Resources is aware some employees are getting emails from outside vendors who want to “discuss your options for retirement,” help manage and invest your money.

These emails are not coming from the City of Plano and you’re cautioned NOT to click on any links. Be sure investment advisors are acting as a fiduciary (in your best interest). Many of these “advisors” charge significant fees and don’t let you know they are receiving commissions from investment funds.  Large investment fees eat into your retirement nest egg, so remain vigilant about unknown calls or emails from individuals who want to invest your retirement funds.
