Volunteers in Plano wrapped up a hugely successful Adopt-An-Angel program thanks to the generous support of TeamPlano. This three-phase annual holiday giving initiative directly impacted 97 Plano neighbors, a new record. You did it!
Phase 1 supported 10 senior citizens on Plano routes from Meals on Wheels Collin County and was coordinated by Rebecca Hand. Employees who adopted a senior donated items from their wish list along with other gifts and words of encouragement. For some homebound seniors their only gift this year came from TeamPlano and many of our staff have chosen to adopt a senior for several years.
Thank you to the following employees for giving back:
Kellie Pendleton – Purchasing
Lori Schwarz – Neighborhood Services
Linda Wilson – Plano Public Library
Annie Guzman and Library Admin/Technical Services – Plano Public Library
Michelle D’Andrea – City Attorney’s Office
Daryl Schaedel – Parks & Recreation
Phase 2 supported 82 members of Plano families from the Assistance Center of Collin County. Departments donated specific items for children and many included surprises for parents. During delivery day, VIP staff were excited to load up car seats, bikes, scooters, playsets, toys, clothing and more. The families receiving services from the Assistance Center had parents employed in industries hardest hit by the pandemic.
The list of employees who gave from each department is lengthy. Thanks to each of you for contributions that truly impacted our city:
Sustainability & Environmental Health
Police Department
Public Safety 9-1-1
Building Inspections
Engineering
Technology Services
Parks & Recreation
Plano Event Center
Accounting/Treasury/Finance Admin
Plano Public Library
Recreation Division
Neighborhood Services
Phase 3 supported 2 TeamPlano families who were nominated by colleagues. Each year VIP includes the option to help our own and the families selected remain anonymous. The nominations that came in spoke very highly of these staff members and why extra holiday support would be a great gift. VIP was able to respond with assistance from:
Customer and Utility Services
Amy Pagan – Plano Arts & Events
Brienne Wilkins – Procurement and Project Management
Chris Biggerstaff – Plano Fire-Rescue
Roxanne Crowley – Engineering
Maria Watts – Public Works
Jana Glass – Parks & Recreation

Special appreciation from VIP Supervisor Corina Sadler to Rebecca Hand and Robert Gonzales for their coordination and logistical support to ensure all gifts arrived on-time and for providing excellent customer service to all staff and nonprofits involved.
