Doors are Open at Wellness Center for Older Adults

Wellness Center nurse health screening

COVID-19 safety protocols caused closures and restricted openings everywhere, but the Wellness Center for Older Adults (WCOA) remained open. Executive Director Joy Hinkelman credits her dedicated staff for their commitment to continue providing care to clients.

The WCOA team is still busy with appointments for foot care, ear cleanings and a variety of health screenings. Knowing the pandemic may be the reason some older adults missed doctor visits, the Wellness Center nurses believe the services they offer are vital.

Some other WCOA services and programs include:

  • Caregiver Support Group (via Zoom) – be encouraged by counselors and other caregivers.
    • 2nd Wednesdays, 1:30-3 p.m.
    • 3rd Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Memory Café (via Zoom) – benefit from brain and memory exercises.
    • 2nd Tuesdays, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • The Front Porch (IN-Person at WCOA) – meeting for 8-10 people to “safely” enjoy some social time. The Rotary Club of West Plano provides gift bag items.
    • Last Thursdays of the month, 1-2:30 p.m.

The Wellness Center (401 W. 16th Street, #600) is open Monday through Thursday for in-person healthcare appointments. Call the Wellness Center at 972-953-7669 or email at for more information.
