Take Advantage of Plano’s Tuition Assistance Program

Tuition Assistance program 2021

Have you considered furthering your education? You’re in luck, because the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) reimburses you up to $3,000 per fiscal year for completing courses in your degree plan. The application process is now open.

Human Resources employees will be on hand to answer your questions about TAP at the upcoming virtual employee Education Fair on April 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join the Zoom event here.

Read City of Plano Policy 208.000 to see if you and your degree plan meet eligibility requirements. Money from this program can only be used for associate, bachelor, master or doctorate-level classes offered through accredited colleges and universities. Funds cannot be used to pay for job-related seminars, workshops, certifications or other short-term courses.

To qualify for this education assistance, applicants must show the degree plan meets one or more of these criteria:

  • Prepares for a promotion within the City
  • Helps with career development related to City functions
  • Relates to current job duties
  • Provides knowledge and skills to enhance job performance

If you apply for TAP funds now, they must be used for qualifying courses completed between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022. Employees can receive up to $3,000 annually, as long as the approved degree plan is from a U.S. regionally-accredited college or university.

The application deadline is Friday, May 21, 2021 at 5 p.m. Send these required documents electronically to

  1. Annual Request for Tuition Assistance Funds form; signed by your department director
  2. Your degree plan

Contact Kathy Healy at 972-941-7437 or Debbie Speed at 972-941-7217 in Human Resources for more information or visit the Tuition Assistance Program webpage.

Check the TAP flyer for more details.
