Plano’s Public Safety Communications (PSC) staff was in the spotlight for National Telecommunications Week, April 11-17. Each year, time is set aside to recognize these hardworking men and women for being heroic unseen lifelines during emergencies.
For PSC, National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week means pulling out all the stops to recognize individuals and teams. It’s also a great excuse to eat, drink non-alcoholic beverages and be merry. Given the challenging events of the past year, the 2021 celebrations had a theme, “Survivors.”
PSC Public Information Specialist Susan Rodriguez said, “The reality TV show boasts of people who Outwit, Outplay and Outlast, but they’ve got nothing on our amazing employees. They have persevered through a pandemic, a once in a lifetime winter storm, plus citizens who were more tired and frustrated than normal. They are true survivors!”

The Plano Fire-Rescue (PFR) Community Paramedic program staff also seized the opportunity to thank the PSC dispatchers with boxes of 9-1-1 gold-line T-shirts. PFR generously assisted dispatch during the pandemic. Susan said, “They were so impressed with how PSC handled everything and wanted to do something nice for us. We have the best Fire Department ever!
