Examine MetLife: Our New Dental and Vision Provider

MetLife website

The City has partnered with MetLife to administer our dental and vision plans. While this administrator and network are new, the benefits and coverage remained the same – and in some cases are even better.

Dental and vision wellness are important components of your overall health. Dental and vision exams do more than just protect your teeth and eyesight; they can also help detect and protect against many other health issues. MetLife has got you covered!

The MetLife dental plan allows you the freedom to visit any dentist, though you’ll pay less for treatment if you receive care from a MetLife PDP Plus network provider. To find an in-network dental provider, go to metlife.com, select “Find a Dentist” then select “PDP Plus.”  For more information about the City’s dental plan and coverage amounts, click here.

The MetLife vision plan offers the same benefits as last year, but with a new enhancement. You now have a $150 allowance toward frames or contacts, plus an additional $150 allowance toward another set of frames or contacts. This feature allows members to get two pairs of glasses OR two pairs of contacts OR mix and match. To find an in-network vision provider, go to metlife.com, select “Find a Vision Provider” then select “MetLife Vision PPO.” For more information about the City’s vision plan and coverage amounts, click here.

To get the most out of your dental and vision benefits, register for the MetLife MyBenefits Online Member Portal. Here you can quickly and easily access in-network providers, plan documents, view and print ID cards and track your claims:

  • Go to metlife.com/mybenefits, enter “City of Plano, Texas” (type the word “Texas,” not “TX”)
  • Click “Register” to complete the registration process
  • After entering your personal information, you’ll receive a code via text or voice message to continue the registration process
  • Create a new username and password, answer three security questions, then agree to Terms of Use and you’re done!

Take some time this spring to focus on your health, and make those dental and vision appointments. Go to plano.gov/benefits for more information about the City’s dental, vision and other benefits, or email the Human Resources Benefits team.
