[ARCHIVED] New HR Manager Carla Romine Seeks Your Feedback

Employee engagement

Human Resources Director Shanté Akafia hired a new department manager to head the employee engagement team last fall. Her name is Carla Romine and she is responsible for overseeing the City’s recruiting, hiring, onboarding and offboarding and FMLA/ADA compliance. She is one of three managers in the HR department.

Since joining Team Plano, Carla has been evaluating the City’s policies, processes and procedures that relate to her area of supervision. She’s discovered some great work and a strong foundation has already been established here. However, high-performing organizations like the City of Plano require periodic review to determine if improvements are necessary.

“Our goal is to be able to adapt to changes quickly, when needed, and ultimately have policies and procedures in place that lead to improved, sustainable organizational performance,” Carla said.

Over the next months, information will be released regarding enhancements to the City's recruiting, hiring, onboarding and offboarding practices. You’ll notice more resources are being developed to help supervisors manage various aspects of an “employee’s life cycle.” Learn more about specific training here.

Carla wants your feedback to assist with improvements to these areas, whether you are an employee or supervisor. Email Carla Romine or call her at 972-941-5573.

Here’s a little about Carla…

“I retired from the City of Denton as the Human Resources (HR) Director in January of 2020 after 25 ½ years of service. During my retirement, I served as the temporary COVID coordinator for the City of Frisco and also worked part-time for a dog breeder and trainer.

I was blessed to be able to retire at a fairly young age (if you haven’t already figured it out, TMRS is such a GREAT benefit!). Unfortunately, most people I love to be around are still working and I decided retirement wasn’t for me yet. After meeting with several Plano team members, I was lucky enough to get this job!

My significant other Bobby and I love to dance and are currently competing in country and western dance events. I love animals, but dogs steal my heart! My Miniature Poodle is named Nugget. I also love interior design, party planning and creating FUN in the workplace.”

Welcome to Team Plano, Carla.
