A proclamation was presented to Chief Building Officer Selso Mata at the May 9 City Council meeting. As we observe National Building Safety Month, it’s important to recognize the professionals who work to ensure the City’s infrastructure grows safely – both residentially and commercially.
Mayor John B. Muns read a portion of the proclamation, which focused on this year’s theme: “Safety for All, Building Codes in Actions.” He said, the theme “encourages us all to make awareness about planning for safe and sustainable constructions a priority.”
Muns and council commended Mata’s dedicated staff for their vigilant efforts to uphold our building codes that ensure Plano is a City of Excellence!
“The campaign in Plano to raise awareness about the importance of building safety began 42 years ago,” Mata said. Since then, our building inspectors use codes and technology to keep structures safe. Each week of Building Safety Month has a different focus:
- Week 1: Energy and Innovation
- Week 2: Building Safety Careers – more people are needed in the profession
- Week 3: Disaster Preparedness
- Week 4: Water Safety
