Sign Up for Plano’s New Residential Food Scrap Composting Pilot Program

Food scraps in the trash

Want to reduce food waste at home? The City will soon launch a new Residential Food Scrap Composting Program to make better use of your organic food waste. The Sustainability & Environmental Education division (SEED) expects to start the project this fall.

The pilot program offers a means to drop-off your food scraps for composting. Diverting and recycling unwanted food keeps it out of our landfill and reduces the release of methane greenhouse gas. Plus, there’s the added benefit of creating valuable compost. Other items being accepted not typically composted at home are meat (bones included), dairy and eggs.

2022.06.13 Composting PilotGrant funding for SEED’s Residential Food Scrap Composting Program comes from the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
