After a two-year hiatus during the pandemic, the Emergency Management department is excited to announce that Plano CERT is reactivating! The first basic training course begins Tuesday, August 30. Classes will be every Tuesday (and some Wednesdays) for eight weeks. This nationally-supported, locally-implemented program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness during hazards.

Volunteers are trained in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Professional first responders can rely onCERTFinalTraining_10132018_EM_003_H CERT-trained individuals during emergencies, which allows responders to focus on more complex tasks. • Possess a valid driver license
  • Able to perform light physical activity – some lifting involved
  • Pass a background check with no felony convictions
  • Attend every Basic Training class (makeup classes offered on a case-by-case basis)

On the last day of class, attendees participate in a is a full-scale disaster drill! This allows the group to apply the CERT training learned.
