Plano’s Focus on Hunger and Homelessness Continues

2022 NeighSrvc Hunger Homelessness Week

Neighborhood Services Director Lori Schwarz and community leaders got a City Council nod regarding local hunger and homelessness efforts. Mayor John B. Muns read a proclamation at the November 14 meeting to acknowledge the City’s collaboration with local agencies to combat the growing problem.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week ends November 20. During this week before Thanksgiving, you are encouraged to take action against both concerns.

Neighborhood Services oversees a number of homelessness prevention programs aimed at rent, utility assistance and more. The department works closely with groups like the Samaritan Inn and the Collin County Homeless Coalition to address these issues.

Joining Schwarz to accept the Council proclamation were:

  • Shanette Eaden, Housing and Community Services Manager
  • Arthur Taylor, Grants Administrator
  • Tameka Jackson, Homeless Services Coordinator
  • James Thomas, Homeless Liaison for PISD and the Coalition

Plano’s annual homeless census is set for Thursday, January 26 and volunteers are needed. Watch for your chance to be of service by collecting care packages and giving your time.
