Plano Police Department celebrates one of its own completing a rigorous Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) course. In true American Ninja Warrior fashion, Officer Chris Semrau passed the 3-month DPS Fitness Institute training in Austin. This program combines classroom lectures, various workouts and a defense board interview.
The Institute’s courses cover:
- Program Development
- Basic Anatomy and Physiology
- Exercise Leadership and Instruction Skills
- Strength, Cardiovascular and Flexibility Training Principles
- Physical Fitness Assessment Protocols
- Nutrition Science and Resiliency Training
This DPS program is academically and physically challenging. Students finish by taking a national exam certifying them in personal training by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Officer Semrau completed the program and surpassed other students by earning the:
- DPS “Titan Award” for achieving 90% or higher on the 500-meter row, 4-minute row, 2000-meter row, pushups, crunches, 1.5-mile run and the Combat Fitness test. All of these tests had to be completed in under 75 minutes.
- DPS “Comprehensive Academic and Fitness Achievement Award” for having the highest combined average on the academic and fitness exams of the 30 other law enforcement trainers in his class.
Impressive! Chris will use his skills and new knowledge in training recruits and officers.
